Description

This is a commission for my good friend =Ribbontail of my characters Merokaneil, Lucie, Sable, and Inheim. Originally she gave me the choice of doing either Inheim or Merokaneil, but I asked her if I could throw in Sable to have an excuse to do both of them, and then I felt like it was lacking slightly without Lucie, so she's in here as well!

I imagine this scene would begin with Inheim hunting down Sable (because of that amulet around her neck; it's important) once he figured out her location, thus the full set of armor shown here. Inheim has always had a full set of armor; I've just never drawn it before, although I did show part of it in the sixth panel of this meme. His armor's color of gold stands for the coat color of his father as well as the royal colors of the planet he lives on, which are gold / black (for the same reason, since his father, The Great Kai-Nemesis, is the ruler / tyrant of the planet.) Purple and blue are for the planet colors themselves.

Currently he's in the middle of conjuring his wings (thus the black, smoky substance coming out of his back) at the same time Sable is conjuring her ice element. As they are locked in battle, Merokaneil arrives on the scene, probably directed here by Lucie, who sits down to "watch the show." Merokaneil's main target would be Sable, but he looks towards Inheim instead, annoyed that a third party would be "interfering" with the prey he considers his. Amusingly, Sable would disagree, feeling as if he is invading a fight between her rival, Inheim.

Also - you may note that in this picture, Sable has black flame markings on her legs, whereas in the other pictures I have drawn of her (note this and this) she does not. This is because whether or not these markings are visible depend on her mood. They are, by default, white - thus appearing "invisible" on her normal coat. However, the angrier she is the darker they become - and in this particular scene, she's fighting a character she hates the most, thus pure black. These markings are a sign of being a Guardian (see look, Kiyony has them too). There's another recent picture in my gallery depicting the same thing... *cough*

This is a scene that could be entirely canon in the story, as well. Since the Realm of Dreams series in on hiatus I may actually work it into the story, given that all the books in the series are due for a revamp of some sort anyways (thus the hiatus).

If you're curious who would win concerning a battle between Sable, Inheim, and Merokaneil, they're actually pretty evenly matched, I'd say. Merokaneil lacks the ability to fly, giving Sable the advantage. However, she also has two characters and not merely one coming after her, but the same could be said for Inheim. Inheim, however, can also fly, leaving Merokaneil on the ground. However, Inheim is not as skilled with airborne fighting and prefers to fight on the ground.

Sable cannot be killed so long as the rings upon her legs remain there. The reason she wears them is because of not only the fact that they protect her, but because they are a sign of being the "sable dawn" (this is where she gets her name from) - the other half, the completion, of her mate Ivory Dusk (perhaps better known as Iivor Anapha, his Phraalixaconian name; Sable's Phraalixaconian name is Sarai Danu), who has a much larger role (mainly seen in The Eidetic Tapestry, the official name of the vallen seires). Unfortunately because of this her rings also serve as a visible weakpoint!

Merokaneil also cannot be killed (Vallen of Eternity) and has a lot of brute force strength behind his attacks, so if he managed to deal a blow to either Inheim or Sable, he would do quite a bit of damage. Merokaneil also has the advantage of having a Melcdar on his side, though it would be unlikely for Lucie to actively help him in a battle. Inheim has armor to protect himself with and deals in speed and agility. He also specializes in confusing his enemies with his magical abilities, namely Darkness.

As I said, they're pretty evenly matched. I'll leave it up to your imagination who would win, given these facts. C:

EDIT:

Whoops I forgot this!
If you're curious / confused about how I came up with sizes and proportions, take a look at this; it should clarify / explain everything.

First off.... HUAAAAAUGH YOU FINISHED IT. Seriously. HAAAUGH. One of the best parts of commissioning folks to draw their own characters is that it always brings out their best... and THIS is definitely one of your best. <3

That said, it's great to see your three best vallens in one picture: Inheim and Sable who are like yin and yang, and Mero who's forever enigmatic (with the even shadier Lucie). You made great use of details, dramatic shading, and dynamic poses especially with Inheim and Sable. My favorite part of this one would have to be the setting. It feels like a forest, yet at the same time it's so tightly-bound that it's almost like an arena... truly a secret battle place in which to DO AWAY with your voes. Truly vallen-style! One thing you could add to enhance the picture would be more effects, like Sable's light energy and Inheim's shadowy wisps, that would boost the sense of motion. But overall, Rax, you truly outdid yourself on this one. I love it!!! If I had more money, and you had more time, I'd love to commission you again. You are officially on my "COMMISSION FOREVER" list. <3

Onto the content of this picture, it's funny how the three of them are evenly-matched when it comes to their abilities. Is this kind of power a species-wide thing, or are these three simply very special vallens? I'd always imagined that Sable would be the likeliest to win: she is one of the 'dar-kind, after all! :3 Also, I really dig Inheim's armor. Is that standard-issue for his kingdom, and is the style seen worldwide? I love how it looks, at once, both insectoid and like a samurai-- no other kind of armor suits his personality more than that!
